                                                                      Charles Colson

Charles Colson, 68, of Catlin, IL passed away at his home with family by his side on Saturday April 1, 2017. Charles was born the son of Orville and Ruth (Bannon) Colson on January 12, 1949 in Grant, NE. 

Charles married Vernest Jacobs on November 28th, 1972. They had three children together, Robert, Sarah, and Melissa, then adopted two more, Briana and Tylan. 

Charles leaves behind two sons, Robert (Toni) Colson and Tylan (August Booe) Colson, three daughters Sarah (Preston) Arnsperger, Melissa (Doug) Halls and Briana (Cody Newell) Colson, ten grandchildren, Darian Colson, Alexis Colson, Kaden Ellis, Seven Ellis, Ava Ellis, Bryan Burks, Henry Burks, Athena Burks, Colton Burks and David Halls, two great grandchildren Kylee and Kynlee Newell, two brothers, Richard (Vicki) Colson and Edward (Pat) Colson and one sister Mary (Jeff) Brown. 

Charles served with honor in the United States Army, completing two tours in Vietnam. He enjoyed golf, competition shooting and collecting guns. Charles rode in many rodeos when he was a younger man. He was a member of the American Legion in Paxton, NE for over forty years. Charles was one of the first people hired when AutoZone warehouse came to Danville. He helped build it, then stayed as maintenance chief to keep things running. Charles most of all enjoyed the time he got to spend with his family. 

A Celebration of Charles' life will be held at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center at 3940 N Vermilion St, Danville, IL on Tuesday April 4, 2017 at 6pm. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4-6 on Tuesday night. Burial will be on Monday, April 10, 2017 at 12:30pm at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, NE.

Dean Simpson, age 83, of Yucca Heights of Lake McConaughy passed away on Friday April 7, 2017 at the Perkins County Hospital in Grant .  Visitation for Dean will be held at the Draucker Funeral Home,on Tuesday April 11th from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday April 12, at 10:00 am from the Draucker Funeral Home, with Stanley Morrison, Leslie Poutney Julie Harthorn andVirginia Kleep, officiating.  Burial will take place in the Ogallala Cemetery .                                                                 Laverna Brandt

Laverna Brandt age 97 years of York, NE, died Friday, April 14, 2017 at York. She was born January 19, 1920 at Woodruff, KS to Arley Edgar  Hageman and Florence (Bradley) Hageman. She was a bookkeeper for Montgomery Wards in McCook, NE. and Denver, CO.  Her enjoyment came with genealogy, bird watching, the coffee club in Superior, NE., She played on a girl’s baseball team; she loved to dance especially Ballroom, played piano and was a member of a small local band with her sisters. On January 31, 1942 she was married to John B. Brandt at Oberlin, KS.  

She is survived by son John W. (Kami) Brandt of Ogallala, NE and his children Suzie (Aaron) Dexter of Thornton, Co, Logan and Jacob Dexter. Jodi Deaver of Denver, CO and her children, Arianna, Elliana, Alliyah, Chelsea and Regie. Jonathan (Mimi) Brandt of Kearney, NE, their children Jonas Burton Brandt, August Emerson Brandt, and a great granddaughter to be born in May. 

Daughter Joyce (David) Samson of York, NE and her children, Jay Nelson of Bradshaw, NE and his friend Deb Bray. Jill (Randy) Shaw of Crete, NE. Their children, Tyler (Katy) Shaw  and their baby daughter Collins Rosella Shaw of Pleasant Dale, NE, Tristan Shaw and Taryn Shaw both of Crete. Jackie (Clay) Bittinger of Henderson, NE and their children Tori Bittinger and fiancé Kendall Gierhan of Utica, NE and Jordan & Ashley Bittinger of Lincoln, NE. Laverna was blessed to hold and enjoy her great great granddaughter, the 5th generation. 

Son Jim (Faith) Brandt of Colorado Springs, CO.  

She is also survived by her brothers Glenn (Jeanne) Hageman of Denver, CO and Wayne (Lois) Hageman of Torrington, WY. and a sister Marylou Hartzog of Ogallala. Many nieces, nephews, and their families, along with their Texas and Nebraska friends.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother; Raymond Bradley Hageman, brother –in-law Ron Hartzog, one sister Bernice (Jim) Turner. Sister-in-law and brothers Morris (Virginia) Brant, Ruth (Don) Bridgmon and Marge (Curtis) Ely. Nephews Bradley Wayne Hartzog, James Clayton “Butch” Brandt and Gary Hageman. Her parents-in-law J. Arthur and Anna Brant.   

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the Metz Chapel in York with the Reverend Art Phillips officiating. Burial will be in York’s Greenwood Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m., to 8:00 p.m., Friday. Family will greet friends one hour prior to services Saturday. Memorials may be sent to the family for later designation.

                                                                  JJ Treankler

JJ TREANKLER, 70, former Ogallala resident, passed away Friday, April 14, 2017 at the Omaha VA Medical Center.   

JJ was born January 24, 1947 at Cold Spring, Kentucky. Raised by her grandparents, Sam and Betty Bowerman, JJ attended school in the Cold Spring area before entering the US Army. 

JJ received a medical discharge after sustaining a fairly serious injury during her service. She resided in Santa Fe, NM for several years where she worked in the security field. In 2002, JJ moved to Ogallala, where she enjoyed spending time on craft work, volunteering and bowling. 

JJ was a member of the VFW and American Legion Auxiliary. Not long after she moved to Ogallala, she got involved in a bowling league, where she made several of her very best friends. Her experience in  bowling gave her the opportunity to travel to various competitions throughout the United States, which she really loved. She spent quite a bit of time as a volunteer with RSVP in Ogallala, helping with BINGO at the VFW and assisting with Meals on Wheels. JJ also loved playing scratch tickets, and did so often, even throughout her stays in nursing homes and medical centers as her health declined. 

JJ was preceded in death by her grandparents, Sam & Betty Bowerman. 

Survivors include her sister, Betty Pruitt of the Golden Ours Convalescent Home of Grant; friend and caregiver, Doris Wilson of Ogallala; along with several of her bowling and volunteer friends.

Graveside services with military honors will be held on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at 12:30pm at the Ft. McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell.

Ruth E. Hansen, 96, longtime Brule resident, passed away Monday, January 23, 2017 at the Indian Hills Manor in Ogallala.

Ruth is survived by her beloved husband, Delbert; children Betty Meacham of Wichita KS, Nancy (Jim) Palmer of Brighton CO, Janet Miller of Lewellen, NE; her sister Alice; brothers Stanley (Jane), Roy (Ardis), David & Gary (Ginger), sister-in laws Bonnie, Vi & Greta; three granddaughters: Michelle (John) Barrette and Annette (Joe) Kopacz all of Monument, CO, Debbie (Rick) Arrick of Brighton, CO; grandson Steve (Liesl) Palmer of TN; 14 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great granddaughters, also many dear friends.

Services will be Friday, April 28, 2017 at 11am at the First Congregational Church in Brule, NE with Pastor Lisa Hadler officiating. Interment of cremains will be in the Morningview Cemetery in Wallace, NE.

DOROTHY MAE ERVIN, 90 of Ogallala, NE, passed away Friday, April 21, 2017 at Ogallala Community Hospital.

Arlene Brill, longtime resident of Imperial passed away Saturday evening, April 22, 2017, at the Chase County Community Hospital, Imperial. Arlene was 89 years of age. 

Survivors include:

Daughter: Charlene Bush of North Platte, NE 

6 Grandchildren 

7 Great-Grandchildren 

Sister: Verda Spitz of Colorado Springs, CO 

Memorial Services for Arlene Brill will be held Friday Morning, April 28th, 2017, 11:00 A.M. at the United Methodist Church of Imperial, with Pastor Dirk Weiss and Rev. Melody Newman officiating. Inurnment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Imperial. 

No visitation, Arlene chose cremation.

                                                                        Lotus Rister

Lotus A. Rister, age 94, formerly of Julesburg, CO passed away April 24, 2017 in Castle Rock, CO. Burial services will be held at the Grant Fairview Cemetery in Grant, Nebraska on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 3pm. 

Lotus was born July 5, 1922 in Grant Nebraska as the youngest of four children to Lester and Eva Cunningham. She was raised on a farm southeast of Grant, and attended schools in and near Grant. On November 28, 1944, she married Donald Rister in Grant; they were married until Don's death in 1989.  During the marriage, Lotus was an avid hunter, fisherman, Julesburg sports fan and supported Don in the Parton & Rister construction business. 

Lotus was preceded in death by both parents; brothers Cecil of Wichita, KS and Kenneth of Omaha NE; sister Marge of Lincoln NE; and son Terry of Waller, TX.  She is survived by son Dennis of Castle Rock CO; four granddaughters, four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. 

She was a loving daughter, wife, mom, grandma & friend and she will be missed by all.
