Preston Brust is opening up about a health condition as he’s “getting stronger every day.” The LOCASH artist revealed in a new interview that his Bell’s palsy reoccured after more than a decade. One side of his face was paralyzed in December, and he’s still recovering.

Bell’s palsy is known as a condition “that causes sudden weakness in the muscles on one side of the face,” according to Mayo Clinic. The weakness is temporary in most cases, with significant improvements over the course of weeks. “Rarely, Bell's palsy occurs more than once.”

"I count my blessings. I'm getting stronger every day, and I don't worry about it quite as much—especially the second time around," Brust told PEOPLE. "It's like, 'OK, we got through this once, we can do it again. We know this is going to be a long journey, so pack your bags — and let's roll, let's do this.'"

Brust — one half of LOCASH, along with duo partner Chris Lucas — recalled brushing his teeth when he looked in the mirror and realized toothpaste was dripping onto his shirt. He told PEOPLE that, through it all, “Chris had my back.” When his Bell’s palsy returned, Brust and his wife, Kristen, “just hugged for a few minutes ...” He explained that he opted to open up about his own health after hearing about Justin Bieber, who revealed in June that he’d been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt Syndrome, leaving the right side of his face paralyzed. Now, Brust said it “feels good” to share his story with everyone, and counts his blessings as he’s “surrounded by so many great people.”

“Hey Yall… This is a really personal part of my story that I haven’t publicly spoken about until now,” Brust shared in a tweet from LOCASH’s account on Wednesday (August 17). “Thank You to Chris for havin my back on & off the stage... & most of all, my beautiful wife & kiddos for all the support! Let’s spread some love today!”
