Jimmie Allen performed a heartfelt cover of one of Loretta Lynn’s most iconic songs as he paid tribute to the late country music legend on Sunday evening (November 20). Allen took the stage at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California, putting his own spin on “Coal Miner’s Daughter.”

“Well, I was borned a coal miner's daughter/ In a cabin, on a hill in Butcher Holler/ We were poor but we had love/ That's the one thing that daddy made sure of/ He shoveled coal to make a poor man's dollar”

Lynn passed away peacefully last month at her ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, her family announced in a statement on October 4. She was 90. Lynn was known for her legendary strides in country music and for blazing trails for other artists over her decades-long career. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, step grandchildren and great-grandchildren, among other loved ones.

Allen performed his tribute in Lynn’s honor as he and AMAs host Wayne Brady introduced his tour mate, Carrie Underwood, to the stage, performing her fan-favorite anthem from her latest album, “Crazy Angels,” with a unique entrance to the stage. Underwood also performed a tribute to Lynn, along with Miranda Lambert and Reba McEntire. The powerhouse trio took the stage at the 56th annual Country Music Association Awards earlier this month in Nashville, Tennessee, performing a stunning tribute in Lynn’s honor.
