Happy Halloween week! In an effort to keep you and your kids safe, let me remind you that every Halloween urgent care facilities and ER's get on average 2,000 injuries from improper knife technique carving a pumpkin.
Inside Edition talked with Dr. Duretti Fufa for tips on safe Jack-o-lantern carving. Dr. Fufa talks about using a sawing motion rather than a stabbing move and for GOD's SAKE keep the knife away from your body and hands/fingers whenever you're handling or cutting anything! At the risk of being overly explicit, Keep your hand out of the INSIDE of the pumpkin while your carving because people not only slice themselves on the outside, there are lots of cases of people stabbing themselves by putting a hand inside and forcing the knife to slip, cutting deeper into the pumpkin than anticipated hitting the victims arm or hand. -Michael J
