Randoms-Top Drink for the 4th, Veggies Gaining Ground on Grill

When it comes to hot dog toppings, mustard and relish are the norm, and foodies say never ketchup (at least not as an adult). What do you say? What is the best topping for a hot dog? What should NEVER be on a hot dog?

Speaking of hot dogs …

July 4th is a banner day for hot dogs, as millions will be eaten. Many of these dogs will be sucked down in New York's Coney Island at the annual Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest.

Will Joey Chestnut hold on to the Mustard Belt? Can anyone beat female champ Miki Sudo? The competition airs live on Wednesday, July 4th on ESPN. (NathansFamous.com

TODAY’S TOPICS:

What does July 4th falling on a Wednesday mean? Tired and hungover workers on Thursday. A survey found that 20 percent of workers said they will be “extra tired” or “hungover” on Thursday, and 30 percent of Millennials full expect to be exhausted and nursing a hangover when they drag themselves into work on Thursday. 50 percent of survey respondents said they are taking days off before and after the holiday this week, with most taking Thursday (63 percent) and Friday (61 percent). Speaking of hangovers … July 4th is America’s top beer drinking holiday. Cheers! (Wallet Hub)

And more about beer … It may be the summer of rosé, but beer is more popular across the country -- at least according to Instagram. Researchers scanned through 3.5 million Instagram posts and found that beer is definitely more popular than wine. The only places where there were more wine-related posts were Kansas, Mississippi and the District of Columbia. Otherwise, beer won in a landslide. (Forbes)

Better make some room on the grill … for some veggies. A new report reveals that 33 percent of all Americans, and 37 percent of Millennials, plan to buy more plant-based products over the next year. Mintel’s 2018 Summer Food & Drink Trends report found that, for many Americans, vegan products like jackfruit and veggie patties are taking the place of burgers and steaks on the barbecue.
